Hosted in conjunction with Nordic BIM Group Finland, we had a great time at our Finnish user day. Featuring interesting talks and discussions with users and partners, it was a great opportunity to connect. Here is a little roundup of the event!
ArchiFrame new features
The event started off with our CEO, Petteri Heiskari, talking about new ArchiFrame features. There’s been some interesting new additions to the software recently, including a new metal connectors tool. It’s always great to be in the same room with our users and get live feedback on our development ideas.
Bohouse Oy: how to use ArchiFrame in building frame and CLT houses
Bohouse Oy kicked off the talks by presenting its design processes of both CLT (cross-laminated timber) and timber frame houses. The framing side of things is functioning really well and there has been praise from the construction site on current processes. The CLT side of things is still in development, but there’s a lot of interesting things in the pipeline.
In a panel discussion, people shared their experiences of static calculation, saying that is not necessarily worth it, suggesting a better workaround: export the Archicad model directly to the calculation function (CLT boards are a different scenario though).
IdeaStructura Oy: tips on how to succeed with your Archicad model
The IdeaStructura Oy presentation looked at both frame and CLT models and provided an interesting insight into their processes. Instead of using a starting base or a template, they use an Archicad file that is renamed. This means that that elements never get new GUIDs, which would happen with a template. According to Nordic BIM Group Finland, mod files work better than pln files. Great insights!
Timehouse: integrating Archicad with other systems (ERP, PLM etc)
Timehouse demoed the integration of ERP/PLM etc systems with Archicad. The extension they made for Kontio enables accurate quantities to be obtained from a model faster. The integration method helps data quality to remain high.
“By enriching the data model, not only can we embrace the concept of digital twins when it comes to the model, but we can also create digital twins of the actual modelling and production processes.” (source).
Pekka Tuominen and the new Archicad 28
Pekka Tuominen from Nordic BIM Group Finland gave a talk on the new important features of Archicad 28. In terms of ArchiFrame, the best new features are improved source references for details and better BIMx. Old libraries, including ArchiFrame, work well in the new Archicad.
Our hacks blog also received a mention on the day, which is great to hear. Thanks to all the speakers and users who participated, see you again next year!
